The short answer is YES. Your feet support you, they transport you and they are also your shock absorbers! If you have foot pain, ankle pain, knee pain, even hip or back pain, it is often an indicator that some aspect(s) of your foot mechanics is/are abnormal.
If the angles of your legs cause your feet to deviate from normal shape to compensate, if your feet have abnormally low or high arches, if the fronts of your feet are out of alignment relative to the rear foot, the mechanics of your feet will be affected. This can cause an ankle, knee or hip misalignment – all of which can affect the back. If the normal function of the feet are affected through these abnormal positions, then the foot’s ability to absorb shock will be diminished.
Think of a car with poor shock absorbers. It makes for a pretty bumpy ride! The same is true of our bodies. In a car the vibrations are transmitted through the car’s frame. In our bodies the vibrations are transmitted through our frames – our skeletons. And our poor unstable backs – one vertebrae stacked on top of another are vulnerable. So it is natural that the muscles of our lower backs, necks and shoulders may tighten in an effort to stabilize the spine. That muscle tightness can cause stiffness, discomfort and pain, even pressure on nerves and discs!
While it would be irresponsible to say that we can fix your back, chiropodists can eliminate any influence that the feet have on your back. And, hopefully, as it is in many cases, it is enough to restore or improve function and reduce or even end your pain.
A chiropodist is trained to do a thorough examination of your biomechanics that should reveal the source of your problem, so it, not just the symptoms can be treated. You don’t need to be uncomfortable or be in pain any longer.
